Vista Gaming Performance

Just to update my results:

I had a go at installing the 100.51 drivers using a modded .INF.
(edit: although I could have installed .54 without a modded inf I now see)

The results:

Lost Coast, 4xAA 16xAF: 55.76 This is wrong, see edit below, actual result: 86.76
No AA, Bilinear: 138.98

TMU, 4xAA, 16xAF, 52.7
No AA, Bilinear: 67

improvement all round on the results that I posted above. The most impressive improvement (though perhaps not the best, I haven't worked out the percentages..) in Lost Coast, no AA / AF, which is less than 1fps lower than the windows xp result (while I was a little disappointed in comparison with the AA / AF result). Both of the AA/AF results increased by exactly 7fps... interesting eh...

Can the people who say they have no drop in performance tell us what card / driver they are actually using, as we all know that the ATI drivers are currently much better than the nVidia ones.. :)

I don't think anyone was really complaining Tute, just stating facts; performance is poor in comparison to XP for a lot of us. :)

Edit: I just ran the Lost coast 4xAA, 16xAF test again, with a restart of the game after enabling it. This time I got 86.03, which is much better, relatively. Unfortunately I'm apparently not very good at fair tests because I turned off real time spyware protection in windows defender between runs. I'll try again..
Final edit: Funny enough I turned it back on and got 86.76. Slightly higher.

my above post for reference:

Lost Coast:
all settings on 'high'
---XP
4xAA, 16xAF: 105.39
NO AA, Bilinear: 139.8
---Vista
4xAA, 16xAF: 48.76
NO AA, Bilinear: 97.46

TMU:
all on 'high', postprocess fx, lightmaps, force bloom ticked
---XP
4xAA, 16xAF: 60.1
NO AA, Bilinear: 81.1
---Vista
4xAA, 16xAF: 45.7
NO AA, Bilinear: 54.9

2142 runs like a dog on vista too, personally i think vista will be ready as a gaming platform in maybe 6 months, its just not upto the job atm and its ram hungry which can't help gaming.

I wouldn't diss Vistas ram usage. It will ALWAYS want more when running Aero. But it unloads this when you run a game. The OS is geared towards 3D graphics - at least moreso than XP. Give it a couple of months and I'm sure it will be at least on a par with XP. Patience is the key.

If you have a spare HD, hold on to your XP install for gaming for the time being. Thats my plan - no worries :)

Well I cant be botherd to post lots of fps stats etc sorry.

but its vista ultimate 64bit X1950xtx with latest Ati Driver from ati.com :)

Even supreme commander runs perfect.

Runs just as well for me on vista as it did on XP

My bad for some reason my ram had set voltage to normal and this was why games were running like crap, put xp on and had the same issues.
