VISTA GAMING

Vista seems OK for me at the moment. I play Americas Army, BF2 and Live for speed. Vista plays all 3 games fine and I don't notice any difference between XP and Vista on these games.
I guess it would depend on which game you plan to play, but overall I am happy with the performance so far.

ahhhh right well i intend to play stalker , dod:s and bf2

if you could also do me a favor can you look at my other post and help me out cheers if you can

1 note to the bf games if u have xfi soundcard titan mode will crash as am using dualbooting xp and vista conquest mode runs fine but titan crashes when loaded the next map

The latest Nvidia and Realtek drivers fixed some stuttering in C&C3. Now everything is fine and smooth as silk!

css stress test in XP = 122fps / Vista = 119fps

not too much difference and it seems to be ok so far!

Playing STALKER toinght too

no problems on a mid spec pc i actually have seen a boost in need for speed carbon from xp to vista.

vista is still a long way behind xp in terms of gaming (as xp was compared to 98 when it first came out)

that's without mentioning the countless creative and nvidia driver issues / lack of features

i keep acronising back to vista when new drivers come out, but keep getting more weird problems (newest nvidia drivers think my 19" xerox can only do 1024x768), xp is rock solid and i'll be sticking with that until i can use vista without any problems

i like vista, especially the new way of browsing folders (less clicks/keytaps for the user), but for now for me, its xp :)

Vista is fine for gaming, i have used bf2, call of duty 2, Medieval total war and medieval total war 2 with no problems what so ever, just make sure you run as administrator and if you want perfect playing just run in compatability mode for win xp service pack 2.

Performance wise Vista is now up there with XP,don't believe me, then look at the 8800 GTS XP and Vista benchmarks here in the HD2900XT review .

Driver wise I have had no problem with my Audigy 4 or Nvidia drivers with about 26 games installed.

Stalker does have one nasty bug that effects both Vista and XP ,in the Pripyat area saving and loading problems,it does not effect everybody but if you go to their official forums you see more then one or two threads on the subject and yes I also had the problem.

Overall Vista is fine for gaming(I'm using Vista x64).

that review just backs up what i've said

xp is better for gaming at the moment

-all my steam games worked fine, but had a noticable drop in fps

Funny I did not notice any drop in Steam based games, remember in that review link the average difference is like 2 or 3 FPS ,you won't notice that in gaming.

call of duty : allied offence took a substantial hit for me

its just down to drivers at the moment though

Well if HL2 runs fine in Vista on my system [see sig] then I feel confident saying that there aren't problems gaming in Vista! NF7 isn't even officially supported in Vista afaik.

From what I can tell, it depends on the game. CSS worked great on Vista for me, but I had problems with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Give it a try, but if you do have issues, bear in mind it's not Vista as such messing up, it's the drivers for it. I would expect most problems to be ironed out before summer.

I have an X-FI and I do not crash in "Titan".

Vista gaming works fine with me, cat. 7.4 drivers raised my fps to XP levels so now i'm a happy panda :D
Even looks like the new ati cards have no amount of fps drop between Vista and XP.

no problems here with my x1950pro. all previous ati drivers have been fine. even during beta testing gaming was ok. i even had an nvidia 7600gs for a short while and even that was fine playing the at the same settings as i could run it in xp. :)
