Hi,

Im thinking of upgrading to Vista just want to confirm that the games i play work on it :)

  • WoW
  • CSS
  • CS 1.6
  • Quake 4
  • Flatout 2
  • DoW Dark Crusade
  • Call of Duty 2

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Vista x64 here, can confirm that all Steam games work without any issues, including CS:S and CS1.6.

I recently installed Vista on this new machine - not had a single problem yet. Everything I've tried to install, has installed fine. Any drivers I've needed have been easy to find and have worked perfectly. Been a very easy process so far.

I'm sure there will be some older games and older hardware that might cause the odd issue - but for me it's been straight forward :)

Dont see why any of them wouldnt work, although you will take a large performance hit going from XP -> Vista.

Used to have 60fps in wow all the time now i get 40-50 on vista :/

Depends if you are using a Nvidia card ;) all about the drivers tbh give it time and Vista -> XP :p

Granted he plays it, but I've read that WoW is a special case on Vista and has unexplained performance issues. i.e. you shouldn't use it as a blanket statement to use for all games going from XP -> Vista.

Yes. All games are no different for me except for WOW

I've not seen any performance issues so far. Addmittedly I've not installed any games yet that really stretch my comp. But I have been playing at 1680x1050 on full settings and getting great performance in games like CSS (100+ fps).

Don't play WoW so can't comment on that.

I'm going to be installing Doom3, so I'll see how that runs. I've also got FEAR, which I could benchmark.

Unfortunately I don't really have anything newer, as those games used to really push my old P4 system. I've only just upgraded and not been out to buy anything new yet.

Will happily run a few benchmarks if someone's concerned about performance - but so far I've not noticed anything obvious.

I would imagine that any performance issues that do exists would just be driver issues, that will be fixed over time. On a decent system there's no reason why Vista should be inherantly slower than XP.

May have to run COD2 in Compatibility mode as I have had to and a few others for some reason!

But it works fine other than that :)

Vista Ultimate 64bit here btw

Vista 32bit here and the only 2 games on that list that I have played are CSS and Q4.

CSS, I get a lot of hl2.exe has stopped responding and will now close.

Quake 4 would just "dissapear" no errors or anything it would just put me back on the desktop and there would be no sign of what went wrong. This was happening about every 5mins I just had to save everytime I shot a mob untill I completed the game.

I'm running vista and from those games you mention I've tested and play the following without a single problems

* WoW
* CSS
* CS 1.6
* Call of Duty 2

Just to add my FPS in Counter Strike Source's Benchmark is at 187fps, where is in XP this was 157. Same settings and hardware.

Both of them games work fine here with no errors.
Could be driver problem or unstable hardware.
Nvidia card by any chance?

Yep 8800 GTX 162.22 drivers, tbh I don't think I have a game that does'nt crash in Vista. I Picked up oblivion the other day and it's the same thing, throws some error like not responding/perfomed an error and will now close, I can't remember which. C&C 3 will throw a stopped responding error every now and then.

Not just games though, sidebar will now close, firefox will now close, explorer will now close list goes on. Most likely a hardware issue somewhere, as the general concensus is that Vista is very stable, hell I bought it thinking it was uncrashable. No plans to go back to XP though as things can only get better.....
