Hey Guys,

Hoping someone can spot something which I have missed, whenever I boot Vista is hanging for about 25 secs when first getting to desktop, it seems to load everything but it wont let you launch anything etc..

It has only just started happening, I recently installed a wireless dongle, but I uninstalled that, and it still does it, I cant see anything weird going on in task manager?

any ideas?

how much memory have you got ? you need at least 2-3gig for vista to boot up and be smooth also what processor have you got again you really need to have a dual core for a decent startup

It is a brand new system, quad core 2 gig... it was booting lightning fast, but now it has this hanging once it hits the desktop

it might be vistas superfetch/idexing system, as on my system when i reboot to desktop indexing starts up and system does slow down for a few mins u can disable it but would not recommend it as this is one of vista pluses and speeds up searching for things on desktop u can always use sleep mode and only shutdown when its needed. defrag your hard drive aswell.

do a scan for the usual stuff viruses spyware im sure you done that already

check msconfig (startup) to see what is starting with windows, you might have stuff you dont need hogging the system, make sure you know what your stopping though.

Wireless connections do seem to have a habit of causing a delay at startup. Have noticed that Vista doesn't connect wireless networks nearly as quickly as XP would.
