Vista hangs 75% of the time on boot

The machine POST's fine, then it displays the Vista loading bar, then on most occassions it'll just go to a black screen and do nothing and I have to restart. Only ever happens on a cold boot and never on a restart from Windows. The machine will sometimes get into Windows first time, but as per title it's only about a 25% chance.

Anyone had a problem like this before?

Managed to fix this, it was also getting stuck on the file crcdisk.sys when trying to enter safe mode. I fixed it by switching over the SATA lanes, as I had a SATA HDD and DVD-RW. So instead of putting the HDD on SATA0 and DVD-RW on SATA1, I put the HDD on SATA0 and DVD-RW on SATA2.

Just letting people know in case anyone else gets the same problem.
