Does anyone know how many changes you can make to your PC before requiring a re-activation as I'm pretty much replacing everything apart from the motherboard and OS install hdd?

Also if I'm replacing more things than it'll allow before requiring a re-activation can I just reboot after a couple of changes then change some more and so on?

Change what you like. The only time it will ask you to reactivate is if you;

Update Motherboard BIOS,
Change hard Drive,
Change Motherboard,
Reinstall Windows.

Other then that, it shouldn't ask you to activate again. Do you have an OEM version or retail?

From what I've heard, you'll have to reactivate in many more situations. But as long as you keep the motherboard you should have no problem reactivating.
