Vista haters

Burnsy, my main man.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/10/29/microsoft_vista_eula_analysis/

That article is all you need to know about Vista EULA. And the fact you can only transfer Vista once. Or run home in virtual PC. Or the fact it doesnt have WinFS. Or the fact it doesnt have VLK. Or the fact they are forcing companies to buy one of their key servers to allow pre-activation. Or the fact the pricing stinks. Or the fact its a complete resource hog. Or the fact the "glass" interface is a blatant attempt to match the OSX interface, and is a complete mess. Or the fact the GUI isnt actually improved, and merely menus and stuff have been shuffled about. Or the fact that the 64bit Vista is still broken. Or the fact that security has been breached, and MS remedy was to shift the breach elsewhere (kernel patch protection). Or the fact it doesnt support EAX. Or the fact that MS isnt releasing DX10 for WinXP because they bloody well know most of the gamers WOULDNT upgrade to Vista, because - honestly, there is no need to. I could go on, and on, and on...

Burnsy, upgrading from XP to vista is like upgrading MS office. Sure, its nice, and often the menu's are prettier, and there are more functions. But honestly, whats the point. Word97 is a good as Word07 if your writing a letter to the bank. Isnt it.

I thought win xp was great first time I installed it, not so with vista so it isn't simply because its a new os.
This exactly describes my feelings as well. At the consumer level XP Home was head-and-shoulders above 98SE/ME, the Windows systems it replaced. Vista just doesn't improve enough things to make me excited about it.

the jump from 98 to xp compared to xp to vista was massive though, before xp, there was zero security for home users!

xp is the biggest leap forward i've seen in the windows environment (ok 3.11 to 95 was pretty big too)

vista doesn't bring that much more to the table, its a shame winfs was scrapped, but ntfs is pretty good so its not as if we're dying to replace it

fat32 -> ntfs was a big jump, because of the secuirty/permissions side of it, and just the format itself is a lot better -large drive sizes, data compression, etc

i'll be getting vista, but i have to say i am really happy with xp at the moment, its super fast on my pc, and have it running sweet as a nut :), the home premium version i think i'll be getting (i think it supports dual core + has mce.. if not i'll get that one!)

Was it a big leap from 2000 though? Not really, just a pretty interface and a few odd bits, reminds me of something.

for some reason when typing i totally forgot about 2000

2000 was aimed more at businesses in my defence :o

2000 imo was the big leap. XP was just built on top of 2000 to make it more accessible to the home user, hence the fisher price menus and wizards along with updated features. Win 95/98 to Win2k, now that was a big leap.

Agreed whole heartedly.

Bledd. Agreed 2000 was for business but consumers did buy it as well. Easy to overlook I suppose though :)

2000 and ME came out roughly the same time, and ME was definatly not a step in the right direction from 98SE!

2000 for business, ME for home (if you liked rundl32 errors!)

edit

i really liked xp when it came out, althought it kinda killed my pc until i turned off visual effects :)

ME was probably the worst OS ever to come out of MS. Truelly awful.

hmmmmm VISTA scares me and as long as I can play me games as long as possible on XP I will be happy I doubt most DX10 effects will be worth all the hassle for a good while and I bet they will be crippling and have em turned off neways just like with early SM3 cards.

So yeah till VISTA is a decent OS that people on OVERCLOCKERS.CO.UK are recommending I will steer well clear ;)

I couldn't give a flying ***** about the eula. No one even reads it. As long as they don't deactivate copies. Which they haven't done on xp. Smetime you have to phone up and say you formatted, they can't tell if you have changed you hardware.

So as long as they don't start saving you hardware on a on-line database there's no problem.

whats broken with x64? seems to be running fine here.

Its a lot more responsive than xp. Even with rubbish drivers.
Looks awesome.
I do belive MS have said when FS comes out it will be a free patch
It supports DX10.

I really think you just hate it for the sake of hating it.

No there's not much point of an upgrade, unless you buy a new computer. But like everything it is improved and eventually xp will die just as windows 98/me has died.

it's also a lot easier to set up things like networks and other such features. Where in xp a normal home computer user couldn't. I find the user controls and stuff annoying, but for average joe there great. For us computer savy we can turn most features off.

Tell you what I'll be moving my parents and grandparent to it. I'll be getting a lot less phone calls because they deleted some important file and killed windows.

Old news, unfortunately. WinFS was killed off completely a few months back.

Apart from that, I'd agree with everything you said. People do seem to hate it for the sake of it.
