I ahve noticed for a while now that Vista keeps thrashing my hdd quite a lot and thats when the PC is just sat idle, It happens a lot when the screensaver is on and if I am watching tele then i sometimes have to lean over and shove the mouse to make it stop for a short while. Is there any way I can reduce the amount of time Vista sits and shortens the lifespan of My drive?

You're going to be changing hard drives a long time before Vista kills it.

It's thrashing away because it's either indexing or defragmenting your hard drive.

If your hard drive is that fragile though, disable those or buy a new one.
