Hi all, at the moment i have xp professional 32 bit installed and an amd phenom cpu, i got a hold of vista home premium 64 bit, i followed the instructions from the microsoft website but i cant get the thing to start up at all. I turned my pc off and inserted the disc but windows loads up as normal, you can hear the disc spinning but it stop after about 30 seconds. I even tried putting the disc in with the computer on and restarted but still nothing, please help, thx all:].:D

Go into your BIOS (start pressing F1 or DEL depending on your motherboard after you have turned the computer on).

Once in the BIOS go into the settings (possibly advanced settings, once again this depends on your motherboard) and change the first boot device to CD-ROM.

You might have to look around a bit for it, but it'll be there.

Hi guys, i changed this in the bios, i still cant boot the disc up, im not sure what to do please help.

Are you sure that you saved it after changing it in the bios? If it boots up XP then it's still using your hard drive to boot. Check it again and make sure you save the bios when you exit.

When you turn your PC on (or its probably more visible on rebooting) the first screen it shows should have a key for the boot menu. On my old Dell, it was F8. If you hit that, it'll give you a list of things to boot from, you'll want the DVD drive, obviously.

Just had a similar problem on my p5q Pro board.

Witht he DVDr connected to the Sbridge SATA wouldnt boot from it, changed to the ICHR10 connectors, booted first time.

If your usin SATA I would check the ports

Hi all, thx for the advice, got it to work much appreciated:]. I did however uninstall it straight away, it caused my pc nothing but problems. Firts thing was when i turned the pc on, i would get a blank screen, i managed to get it sorted, then after i installed my chipset drivers, it did it again, i sort of got it sorted again, turned my pc back on again then i got a sreen with loads of crap come up, my friend tried everything and he could not get it sorted and he is a pc tech, thx for all your help anyway, kind regards all:].

Hi again, as i have removed my vista, ive put it up for sale on ebay, ive just found out though that my vista cant be used on anyone elses computer because i have installed it on my pc already, is this true?, its oem remember, if it is i am a bit of money down:[.

OEM can only be used on the PC it's originally installed on, so you can't sell it on unfortunately. Retail can be sold on fine, but obviously costs a fair bit more to begin with.

you're jumping the gun it seems, and not telling us what's going on (so we can't help much)

what hardware are you running :)

Hi m8, im not jumping the gun, vista basically caused problems with my pc, i then wanted to sell it on, i got my answer so i cant now, i have expalined clearly whats going on. I f i did need help with the problems it caused, i would have follwed it up on here and asked for help with them, i wont be installing vista again so theres no point in asking for help with the problems i had after installing vista, heres my harware anyway
