Hi there

I am posting this from my home PC that is now running Vista Ultimate 64-Bit which I purchased from OcUK today!

I am loving the software and I'd advice anyone to go for it.

You have the chance to your copy of Vista if you buy from OcUK by this Tuesday if you select Next day courier or Royal Mail special delivery. 1st class and 2nd class services are not guaranteed next day.

Alternatively you can buy one over the counter in our shop on Monday.

We have Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate OEM versions on our shelves, get yourselves a copy now of Microsoft latest operating system a week before the official release. :)

I bet you would.

It is a good OS, very good, but not leaps and bounds better than XP i was hoping for. Certainly wouldnt have been too happy if i had to pay for it (volume licensing) and seems much more of a resource hog than XP. Games work...but not as well as they did before the upgrade.

Maybe after using it a little more and delving in to what it has to offer i'll change my mind...but honestly, to those that are thinking about forking out for this...wait a while.

What about the Retail versions? I want Home Premium Retail, not OEM... when will you have those badboys in stock and ready to ship?

I think I'll wait for the end of the rush and the prices to drop.

:(
I doubt prices will drop much :p XP Home OEM is still £60-odd now, over five years after its release. That's only £15-20 less than Vista Home Premium.

Overclockers apparently still have tonnes of OEM's in stock, I ordered mine this morning and will get it thuesday.
No matter what, you will have to buy Vista at some point :p

O rly? Not necessarily :) Anyone who bought Windows 2000 back in '99 could have managed to miss out XP without a problem. And I am sure XP will still work just fine until Vista's replacement comes out. Support and updates for XP continues for many years yet.

my xp disk has now been removed from my esential cd's folder replaced by vista ultimate x64. never again will xp grace my computer as 90% of my stuff is working now and those components that arn't will at some point in the near future i'm sure.

edit: and i'm running dx10..... nothing to play with it on yet but it's there!

You got me there :p .
I remember that I didn't go windows 98 until 2005 :p .
Hmmm, but if one is a gamer, wouldn't it make sense to upgrade to vista at some point since it will have DX10

Indeed.

And lets face it, it will be unlikely that Vista will be Microsoft's primary OS for the next 5 years like XP was.

I expect them to go back to a 2-3 year OS refresh.

How is everyony finding the performance. I got a copy of windows vista business from my msdn AA and i find gaming performance to be significantly worse than windows XP. Im assuming at this stage this is down to graphics drivers.

That's certainly what it will be.

yeh, on nvidia with aa off it has a fairly minimal impact, but AA takes the framerate down a long way for me (something like 150 with no aa to 40 or 50 with 2x [wasn't a very fair test though I must say])

Right you say 90% of your stuff is working what isn,t working or the 10% ?

tbh its mostly due to most firms still holding back on their driver releases it seems, i aint wiping xp off my machine till all the drivers are out....then i switch perminantly hehe

in that 10% i'd imagine it would be a lot of obscure items like bluetooth dongles, memory card readers and other generic non named manufacturer devices.

there's now only one thing not working,
philips webcam... no driver support at all

games wise from what i've tried

half life 2/lost coast (problem with the 64bit version valve are aware)
Farcry works in 32bit but not in 64 this is going to be a driver problem i'm sure

HL2 Ep1 works fine
Oblivion works fine
F.E.A.R works fine

3dmark06 has dropped by only 100 points from my xp install
