installed vista, i got it down to 700mb, i installed it and when i go into c drive and right click its 2.6gb. but my hard drive is showing im using 8gb? how is this?

Your c:\windows is 2.6Gb? The rest will be the swap file, system restore points and a hibernation file if you have that enabled.

2.6gb is still low tbh

if you dont use hibernation turn it off (usually the same size as ram, e.g if you have 4gb ram, hibernation.sys file will be 4gb)

run command prompt as administrator

type:> powercfg -h off

i dont use system restore either so ive turned that off too and deleted the restore points

Hi ants83, what do you mean you got the Windows Vista install down to 700MB, did you make a V-Lite copy of Windows Vista?

i installed it and when i go into c drive and right click its 2.6gb. but my hard drive is showing im using 8gb? how is this?

I'm sorry but I'm not quite understanding you. Where did you get the 2.6GB figure from? When you right click on the "C" drive, it will display how much space has been used and how much free space is available. I'm guessing you are referring to the "Used space" value but I'm not entirely sure where you are getting both the 2.6GB and the 8GB figures from, care to elaborate please? :)

if you're going to use vlite

put sp1 in there first, because you can't apply an SP after removing components.

as said above..
likely to be system restore
pagefile
hiberfile
