Vista install and overclocking

I did a little searching but I could not find a direct answer.

I currently have a system with both the CPU (E6600 @ 3.2Ghz) and memory overclocked. On this setup I am using a XP Home install and was thinking of creating a 20GB partition for Vista and then dual booting for a while, however, I am not sure if I should reset the overclocks back to stock settings for the vista install.

I was wondering if anyone has installed vista fine on an O.C system? Also if an error did occur during the vista install would I be able to cancel the install to reset the O.C back to stock, or would I just have to access BIOS on post during a restart to reset the settings?

If it's Orthos stable then I don't see why you would get any problems during install, i'm also sure that many of the people on this forum with overclocked machines have it working perfectly.

If it does give you problems, then just pop into the BIOS and tune them down a bit. But as I said, stable is stable, and I don't see why Vista would be any different.

Thanks, I had just heard some people having problems, I thought they would be down to stability issues but wanted to double check.

It will probably want more than 20GB, what with temp and page files.

Do not install overclocked, I did with the setup bellow and the resulting OS stability wasn't pretty.

Then surely that's because your oc isn't that stable?

I've got a 600 mhz OC on my x2 4400 and that isntalled vista fine.

Vista is more fussy then XP when it comes to overclocking.
I couldnt install Vista with my e6300 overclocked even 1mhz although it ran fine clocked to 2.3ghz on XP.

Im just testing vista now ive got it installed with overclocking, been getting some strange results, graphics corruption, vista crashing etc. Im currently running stock and everything is fine, going to try overclocking again and see what happens but to get back to original post its worth installing vista at stock.

My overclock is 100% stable (well was at it isn't my PC anymore).

It passed Prime, OCCT, S&M and I had it for just over a year judging by when I bought the 146 in my trust.

Installed Vista x64 on my machine while overclocked. Installed fine. If you're sure your machine is stable then there shouldn't be any problem.

If you do get an error then lower your overclock & start a fresh install.

Also, my overclock is the same in XP & Vista. If it's 100% stable then the OS shouldn't make any difference.
