Hello everyone - first post on this particular forum ( you seem to be a very knowledgeable lot on here so thought this to be the obvious forum for sound advice). After letting all the Vista hype die down a bit I thought now would be a good time to upgrade from XP (I know, lots of you will say don't do it, talk to the Samaritans first) Anyway to cut a long story short I went down the upgrade path instead of clean install. Some 3 hours later all was going well up to around the 70% install marker when as had happened a few times during the install Windows shut down again. (During installation I only got one short warning message SCSI or RAID controller might cause a problem) Vista Advisor hadn't flagged up any issues prior to install apart from Norton Ghost Daemon Tools (old version) and Nero. I uninstalled Ghost and Nero and updated Daemon Tools to latest version prior to starting install. Anyway after shutting down at approx 70% the machine started to boot again and as it did so I noticed just for a brief second the infamous "blue screen of death" followed my blank screen. This was quickly followed by a message screen "startup interrupted possible hardware failure or power disconnected please press any key to start Windows normally - there were also other options Safe Mode Debugging etc. After pressing start Windows normally the machine kept going round in circles always bring me back to the same group of messages. I even booted from the Vista DVD and clicked repair but to no avail. Beginning to panic by now I tried the Debugging option and was advised Vista had failed installation and I was now being taken back to my previous version of Windows (I've never been so glad to see my familiar Desktop load I can tell you).

Sorry this post goes on a bit - I have now decided to do a clean install but need a definitive answer to my next question - does the latest 32 bit version of Daemon Tools work OK with Vista? The reason I ask is that I have a very well known software "Office" utility which is mounted as an IMAGE and it would be a disaster if I load Vista only to find I cannot load and run the said "M Office" application. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks for the very prompt response - I suppose now I will find out if I have done the right thing with installing Vista or made one huge mistake. To be honest I have been in two minds whether to leave my present PC (in perfect working order) as it is with XP and build a new one from scratch and install Vista on the new one.
