Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get Vista Home Premium (64 bit) full version to install on my
machine.

I boot from the DVD, it goes through the screen that says "windows is
loading files" then changes to the black screen with the green scrolling bars
and goes no further.

PC spec:

MSI K9N Ultra
Athlon 64x2 5000+
Antec smart power 500 watt
Corsair DDR2 PC2 6400 3x1gb
ATi Radeon X1950 Pro (PCI-E)
Seagate Baracuda 320GB Sata2

I've tried unplugging all the peripherals leaving only keyboard, mouse and
speakers connected.
I've also tried swapping the DVD writer with an AD-7170A
Tried warm booting, cold booting, leaving running at hang point for an hour.

So far no good. Can anyone shed any light on this. I've seen this issue on a
few forums but no real answers.

I had the same issue on my Asus P5W-DH, and the thing that sorted it was a BIOS update.. tried that?

Try removing some of your RAM... you say you have 3x1gb sticks, see if you can install Vista with just two sticks installed.

Removed two sticks of ram, removed my x-fi soundcard, removed my speakers and network cable. Install went through fine, thanks for the help :)
