Hi all,

Just bought parts from a new system, I haven't started installing my Vista yet but got all the hardware screwed in, just realised that I don't have a floppy drive, so my question is how does Vista handle SATA drivers during installation? Do you still need to press F6 to install from a floppy?!

My motherboard is Asus PB5 Delux.

Thanks for your help.

It has SATA drivers built in and you can install other drivers during installation.
Vista should install with no problems, i think it has some probs with raid arrays though. (can't get mine to work!)

u may need to download your SATA controller drivers from ASUS site then put the drivers on a usb pan drive

Vista, like all OS's only knows about controllers that were around when it was written.
I don't believe by default for example it contains any drivers for the ICH9r controllers in ACHI or RAID mode - found on the new P35 chipsets.
However if you leave the "mode" of your controller to standard IDE in the BIOS the OS should install just fine.

Vista allows you to feed in drivers contained on floppy, CD, DVD or USB memory sticks, so no need to worry about a lack of floppy drive these days.

Whats a Floppy drive :D

My last build is the first build ever where I havent even entertained a floppy drive, felt a bit weird, lol....

Vista appears to have all the nForce chipsets for both normal SATA mode and RAID modes, I was quite impressed it picked up the 2 RAID arrays I had configured right away. AFAIK older chipsets work fine, I don't know of anyone who has actually had to plug in a floppy get to install it.

Fortunately if it doesn't have a driver MS have finally seen sense and let you choose from available drives so you can just put in the CD which came with your board. No need for a floppy any more!
