Vista Install Question

Gonna install vista on friday when I got some free time and was wondering if people would recommend installing it by itself on my HDD or partitioning the HDD and install vista on one part and everything else on another in case something goes wrong.

Mainly wondering if i had say word, firefox, nero etc... on the empty partition and had to reinstall or format the vista partition for whatever reason would any programs on the other partition work after reinstalling vista? I was under the impression that they wouldn't due to the registry keys etc... missing from vista.

deleted original post as i didn't read the op's question properly.

now that i have, i would say that this would not help. a few programs might work, such as filezilla which uses an xml file if you tell it to (i wish all software used this method).
