Hi, I'm trying to install Vista (a dual boot of XP and Vista to be precise) and have so far not been able to boot from the dvd. The install program loads files, then I get the scrolling bar screen, then after that I get the blue backdrop screen and a mouse pointer (which I can move to my heart's content) but it doesn't get any further than that.
I used gparted to resize my XP partition, then created a new, unformatted partition for Vista. I tried to boot from the DVD after that and have also attempted to boot after formatting the new partition to NTFS using the windows disk management porgram.
I have googled and searched these forums for an answer but haven't been able to find anything specific... it would appear that the A8N-VM CSM/NBP motherboard has issues which are solved with a BIOS update and that there is an issue with having 4gb of RAM when attempting an install (I only have 2 so this can't be the problem). I think my problem could be related to the motherboard as ASUS's website doesn't list it under Vista on the OS compatibility page.
So my questions are:
Has anyone heard of/ had problems installing Vista on a system with a A8N-VM CSM motherboard?
Do I need to update the motherboard BIOS to install Vista?
Do these symptoms point towards another problem?
Any help would be appreciated!
