Vista Installation help.

Yea didnt update Bios lol.

Im using my 2GB set. took out the 4gb set to see if i still get bsod.

if this installs fine, then the ram set i bought is faulty.

Weird, after it goes through the completing installation stage, my whole screen just goes blank.

The only thing showing is the flashing "-" sign on the top left corner of my screen.

Any idea?

It looks like its working this time, Im going to install all drivers then put the 4GB in again and run orthos etc to see if its ram failure.

Im on my main pc now. all is working fine up till now, will run orthos when i sleep tonight

Vista is ment to isntall on 1 or 2gb i beleive. Dont think it works on 4gb. I remeber reading taht somewhere.

I did the install on 2GB.

I switched the ram, now im using the 4gb set, will know if there is any problems with the ram tonight when i test it.

You can install any amount of RAM you like with no problem. However the 32Bit version of Vista will only see just over 3GB of it. You need 64Bit Vista to be able to use more than that.

I don't even need to test tbh Lol. BSODed 4 times in 2 hours.

Changed to my 2GB ram set and all is fine.

Will be returning ram to ocuk.

You didn't read what i said. You cant install Vista 64bit on 4gb of ram. it wont work. You need to have 2gb then add the other 2 in i beleive.

ive read elsewhere that it wont. Also this guy couldn't install it with 4gb in. Dont see how that works then.

I managed to install Vista with 4GB of ram installed, although I had to up the vddr a bit as it kept hanging.

Vista can be a right pain to install sometimes. I've installed it on a few systems, one of which wouldn't work unless I totally wiped the drive and partitioned it during Vista setup. If the partition was already there from a XP install, or I created the partition first with a 3rd party tool it wouldn't work.

Sending faulty ram back to OCUK. The replacement ram better be a faultless one.

Can confirm that its the ram, had my 2gb set for 3 hrs ++ gaming etc no crash... put in the 4gb set within 30 mins crash...
