Just built a new PC for my mum but having problems installing vista.

PC boots up ok, I can go in to the BIOS and it is all happy with the settings there. Detects both the IDE harddrive (don't ask!) and IDE CDRom.

Boots from the Vista DVD quite happily.

Get the blank screen with the white progress bar at the bottom and "Windows is loading files...."

It gets to the end of that and then you can fainting see the Windows Corporation at the bottom of the screen. The system will then reboot and start all over again.

Have left it doing this for 5 or 6 times and it has got no further.

Any ideas?

try removing sound cards and the like unplug 1 dcrom strip it to its bare bones then try and loading vista once its installed start to put the stuff back in.
dont overclock anything in the bios, and some times running dual mem can have a affect.
just 1 hard drive 1 cdrom 1 graphics

hope it helps

Unforunately as this machine is for my mum it is already bare bones. Only things in it are HDD, DVDDrive, Memory, Graphics card. Sound card is on board (Abit IL9 Mobo).

Only thing plugged in is the keyboard.

At a bit of a loss with this one, google not being any help either :(

Graphics card.

Either the 7950 I have lying around is faulty or the mobo doesn't support it.

7900 in and all is working.
