heya,

i've just ordered my 64 bit OEM basic edition (yeah cheapskate me :P) from OC, and so uh yeah, I was wondering what I should do about installing it... here's my prob:

I've got 2 HD's - 1 X 40gb slow 4000rpm 1 X 80gb 8000rpm - or something

40gb has got win XP - programs and general ****
80gb has games and uh yeah games.. - this is the HD I want to install vista on.

The main prob is that I really want to format C: (40) as win xp seems infested with errors and spyware that i really cant get rid of. BUT ive got a lot of programs, pictures and general files etc...

So what do I do? just dump the installation on F: (80g) - do I need to format/partion before installtion first? and sort the rest of the crap out through vista?

Thanks so much =)

Rich

ps. will I have probs running stuff like m old 7.1 soundblaster sound card, USB PCI card, camera drivers etc?

Just backup up everything either on that spare hard drive or a load of DVDs.

Once you have done that i would format your O/S Hard Drive, Once you have deleted the partion then just turn the pc of completely that will kill any viruss that you had on your Hard Disk.

Thanks for the reply, I was wondering, will everything be okay on the 80gb (F:) HD if I install Vista on there? or does it create a partion or something?

Thanks :) :)

ps. ive got a USB 2.0 (seemingly unbranded) PCI card which I rely on to use my USB hardware because my mobos USB ports just dont work (with XP anyway), is there a chance of it not working in vista?

* Your using the 80gig HDD for games - So I imagine you have the DVD/CD media
* Format the 80gig HDD from Windows XP
* Create a folder on the 80gig HDD
* Copy all your important files and documents from the 40gig onto the folder on the 80gig
* Disconnect the 40gig HDD
* Swap the jumpers on the drive to make the 80gig the master
* Install Vista on the 80ig making sure you do not format the drive.
* Boot into Vista.
* Check the folder contains the data
* Reconnect the 40gig HDD
* Check it again for any important data
* Format it
* Use it as a backup, spare, or to hold your games.

I would also consider buying a larger HDD. You get a lot of Gigs for the £ these days.
