i installed the vista update (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979) a while ago using a downloaded file before it was released on windows update.

recently i've been getting errors on windows update saying it cant install that update, but if its installed, shouldnt it not show up on WU? i've tried running windows update from the start menu "as ab admin" to get it installed but still the same problem.

i cant even find the uninstaller for it either.

help?

At the time did you install the patch from official microsoft site or get the ones from neowin etc.?

I think the unofficial ones were beta and came without an installer but don't quote me on that.

The version you have installed should show up. Have you clicked on the link "view installed updates" in programs and features.

Hi,

Just installed vista and I am having the same problem. I made a custom disc with vlite but didn't do much apart from remove some features etc. Didn't add updates or drivers to it.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Bah, vlite bug. Now to do ANOTHER install of vista.

Hey skanky and Tobes, the error message that you both are getting, does it resemble the message below?

If so, their's absolutely nothing to worry about. If you are getting the error message above then it's basically means that you already have that particular update installed on your system.

Hey skanky, type in Windows Update into the start menu search bar and then hit enter. Once the Windows Update window has appeared, click on "View Update History". It should be listed in their. :)

That update never appeared on the last batch of Windows Updates I did last month. I had downloaded it manually but never installed it after reading of some problems with it (though I accept that others had no problems at all).

My thinking was that if it wasn't yet released via WU, then maybe it's still being tweaked.
