Hi chaps,

Got my dear dad a Dell laptop that comes with Vista Business. Now I have XP Pro on my desktop, whats the potential of swapping them over in license terms? Possible?

As I want to use Vista and he has no idea there is even a difference...

It can be done, as long as you have the correct install disc and you remove it from the lappy first.

I did the same with my laptop and desktop, had to call MS to activate it and they had no problem.

Hello Mr Paul, to my understanding, when you purchase systems from manufacturers like Dell, you are given an OEM License so to speak which is tied to the machine that it is originally installed on. If this is the case, which is highly probable, then you will not be able to install Windows Vista on your desktop machine. :)

Correct, as usual.

You do have the right to downgrade the laptop to XP though :)
