Vista mail and Tiscali pop server

I friends of mine is having problems with Vista and Tiscali

When he opens windows mail he gets the authentication request for the tiscali pop server appear, sometimes it will login after one click other times it can take several minutes to get any further, it just sits on the authentication window doing nothing.

The strange thing is that sometimes it will just work as it should with the stored credentials being used and the authentication box not displaying at all.

Tiscali say there is nothing wrong with their server

How can I help him fault find this?

I'm having problems with Outlook and the Talktalk/Tiscali (Tiscali email address) server. I'm using Windows 10. Trying to log on to Outlook, I get the authentication box and the Error 0x800CCC0E message - 'unable to synchronise subscribed folders' and 'cannot connect to the server'. Twice I also got the Error 0x800CCC92 - 'server rejected login' message. I have no problems at all logging in via Talktalk Webmail.

I did a Google search when the problem first started, and found a post saying "Same old crap, here we go again, just have to wait till they get their act together". That was three weeks ago, though, and I'd have thought they would have sorted it out by now. I've tried ringing the complaints number; I give up after three-quarters of an hour with no reply.

Does anybody know anything? Could the problem be at my end?
