Vista Media Center Codec Issues

I'm trying to play some avi's through vista media center- but I get a "missing codec" message....

I'm running x64 vista ultimate with the latest k-lite codec pack. As far as I am aware the codecs are setup correctly (all of them play in media player and vob's work in media center), but it is just certain avi files that do not work.

Is this something about media center requiring x64 codecs? That perhaps I do not have?

How can I fix this?

I use the 'Vista Codec Package': http://shark007.net/

Ignore the crappyness of the website and download both the 32bit and 64bit packages, should hopefully do the trick.

yup

remove all other codecs and packs that you have first though

VCP is amazing

Cheers- might have to give that a try, but is there no way to get k lite working correctly?

Right, well vista codec pack doesn't work either- does exactly the same thing.... plays in media player, "codec missing" in media center.

yeah, it uses (or at least used to, i've not checked in a while) dll's that aren't freeware

Do I need the x64 components for the VCP?
