Vista mouse movement is different to XP?

Am I imagining things or is the mouse acceleration in Vista markedly different to in XP? I was using Vista on my machine earlier, with the mouse speed slider set to the same position I have it in XP - one notch from the far right - and I just can't get used to it.

Have MS changed the behaviour or am I going nuts.

It seems to be similar to how it works in OS X - and I don't mean that as a compliment! ie. the distance the pointer moves varies depending on how fast you move the mouse. In XP, if I move the mouse half the width of the mouse mat, the pointer moves the full width of the screen - whether I do it very slowly, or in one quick movement. That's how I like it.

I'm just using a basic Dell USB mouse btw.

Just tried it, not sure if it's better that way or not :) I'll need to play with it more. In XP I do have the pointer precision box ticked, but the movement is fine and intuitive.

I reinstalled XP only a few months ago (after HDD failure) and I'm quite sure I didn't do anything like that. According to some googling, the pointer movement behaviour has been altered in Vista - though I don't know if that is gospel. It isn't drastically different to XP (like OS X) so it's hard to put my finger on it - I have to reboot each time to compare the differences as I'm dual booting.
