I have come across yet another Vista bug - quite fundamental and one which MS are aware of as they even offer a fix - (which hasn't worked for me or many others). Office 2003 cannot install any updates. On day one of Vista Install 2 Office updates have been installed. However, since then there are no less than 13 security updates which cannot be installed due to problems with "Office Source Engine". You name it and I have tried it - short of performing a complete uninstall which I daren't do just in case I cannot reinstall again and don't fancy paying nearly £400 for Office 2007. Office is a Microsoft core product and one would have thought they could sort out their own software to run with Vista

How can it be classed as a bug if it was never intended to work as such in the first place?

Depending on what specific programs you use, you might be able to get away with one of the cheaper editions?

I would go for the Student/Home User version but for the fact that it doesn't include Outlook which I really love - Windows Mail is just to basic, I can't even find an archiving facility.

Have you tried Mozilla Thunderbird? I find it far better than Outlook.

Have you tried the three suggestions here http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=611472&SiteID=1

Yes thanks I have - none worked so as a final resort I uninstalled Office and then reinstalled. Updates worked a treat this time so obviously a file or pathway had become corrupted - I strongly suspect the Ose.exe file to be the culprit. Sadly it looks like I'll never see Rocky the Office Assistant again as this is clearly another bug which keeps saying not enough memory to perform this task (which is rubbish) so stuck with the daft paperclip helper (I liked Rocky, he used to keep me company whilst typing).
