basically the setup is this. Me = vista rtm upstairs, using netgear WG311T connecting to DG834GT router that is downstairs. This connects to adsl, and is wired to my dads pc, laptop and our new magicolor 2550 printer.

The laptop and my dads pc thats running xp can see the printer and use it fine and can see the drive i have shared up here. I cant see anything except the router and my pc up here.

Is there some stupid setting i have to do to get them all to see each other?

Ive got Private network enabled with sharing on, hence them being able see the dirve etc.

Any help appreciated,

Wayne

try setting it to home network (dont have vista installed right now, so can't fiddle before answering), also try putting them both in the same workgroup name

check the firewall settings to see if filesharing is an exception (on both pcs)

theyre both in the same workgroup, both have firewalls switched off. Its strange that the laptop and the xp pc can see this pc's public and the hd i have shared but i cant see anything else from here?

are you sharing a folder on both pc's?

make "C:\Shared" and share that

sometimes there's problems when you try and share a folder that is in C:\Documents and Settings\

yea the printer is shared through my dads pc aswell as being connected to the router itself.

and ive setup my d: drive as shared from this vista pc, and the two pcs down stairs can see it perfectly.

ive setup c:\shared on the xp pc and i cant see it.

try enabling simple file sharing and see if that helps at all

usually the most bug free way to browse another pc i've found is..

start, run
\\computername

then wait for it to display that pc's shares
