So I got my fancy new speakers the other day and I thought I may aswell update my M-Audio Rev sound card drivers while I'm thinking about it.
Bad idea. First I had the, apparently common, "no audio device connected" problem, but I got that sorted out after uninstalling any trace of the m-audio drivers and deleting a couple of m-audio related keys from the registry, no I didn't back up the reg first
and then reinstalling the drivers.
Now I can't get the audio part of any sort of video files to work. I can play mp3's, I get normal sound when playing games but when I try to play any sort of video file I can't get the sound to work. Vista won't even let me hear the audio track of DVD's so it's not just dodgy avi files that don't work.
I've tried removing all the codecs I had installed then installing the vista codec pack, still the same problem. Everything is fine in XP (it was never afflicted with the problem in the first place, but I can't seem to fix the problem in Vista 32bit.
I've tried unstalling the m-audio drivers and related software and physically removing the card then restarting and then installing m-audio software and reinstalling the card but still no joy. I'm guessing I may have deleted something from the registry I shouldn't have, but I can't think what especially as I was searching for "m-audio" and "revolution".
It's strange because some of the video files have mp3 audio, which I guess uses the same codecs to play as normal music mp3 files.
Time for a fresh install of Vista?
