Vista: No hardware/EAX mode in games for X-FI

I Have just made the switch to vista, but ive found out as am installing my games,theres no hardware or EAX mode for the x-fi in games, well there is but you cant enable them? :mad:

Ive got the latest drivers and the creative suit cd for vista.. the drivers all installed fine too. Do you guys have the same problem with your x-fi with games in vista???

Old news and many posts on it mate, and search is working again.

MS changed the SoundStack in Vista, your EAX will work fully in OpenAL games but not DirectSound games.

Creative long ago made a APP to get round this.

And before anybody makes the usual attack at Microsoft over this.
Microsoft made Creative aware of this a good 18+months before the release of Vista - plenty of time to sort the issue before it became one.

Not a very good point, shouldn't have been done in the first place, espically as the Vista audio engine is horrible.

Bill gates is a a** for forcing us to use vista. DX10 only on vista :mad:

Apparently, active sound in vista causes a loss of network bandwidth, Microsoft say's it's a design feature, I'm sure gamers think it's a pain in the rear.

Sorry to ask, but anything more than anecdotal evidence?

I'm not saying I disbelieve you, I'm just wondering if you have a source as opposed to a friend-of-a-friend.

My friends keep insulting Vista just to get on my nerves, as it were, so I get paranoid when anyone else does, and so on. So sorry. =(

Vista for me now is just usable due to some recent drivers etc, minus a few niggles as Im on Vista64.

I was trying to avoid using my FREE copy from MS till SP1, but its not got any big miracle fixes and I wanted to play BioShock in DX10 as 1st kinda real game not a port but not totally DX10 like Crysis.

Anyhow I tested Longhorn unoffically through IRC from early leaked Alphas and betas then offically for MS (they actually are in the channel #Winbeta).

Vista was supposed to be Beta in OCT 2003 and Final in OCT 2004, it came out 2 years late and with many, many apsects missing that were supposed to be in it, thats why next new OS is supposed to be in 2009 and will be what Vista was to be and more.

Although Longhorn was buggy at alpha/beta level this is what I loved:
