Vista noob question, resize taskbar ?

Hi, I've been given a friends PC to look at and have noticed the taskbar is double the size. I've never used Vista, only XP and Windows 7 and I'm having trouble getting it back to normal. I had a quick Google but the method of unlocking the taskbar and dragging it to the required size doesnt seem to work, it's still double the size and will go no smaller. All the desktop programs are listed in the taskbar too and when I try and delete them from the taskbar they disappear from the desktop too, which I dont want. Can anyone help me out with this problem ?

right-click it > properties and tick 'use small icons'

Cheers, it wasn'y that in the end though. It was the desktop and quick launch taskbars causing problems. I disabled them both and then was able to reduce the size by dragging. Thanks for the reply though.
