Vista not identifying my network...

Ok first of all, when it comes to networking I don't know a whole lot, so bear with me...

Basically, I just built my mum a new PC on Vista Ultimate- while doing this I had it connected to the net using a wireless USB adapter to get updates and such, but as soon as I connect it via ethernet I get limited or no connectivity errors and the network is labeled as 'unidentified network'.

This is set up as follows: NTL modem thing --->ethernet>---linksys WRT54G--->ethernet>---PC.

Never had any problem with this under XP...just plugged it in and it worked fine. Drivers up to date....sorry none of this is specific but I just don't know loads about how it works. It won't let me access the router via its IP so the problem seems to be with Vista. I did manage to get it to work temporarily by deleting all the networks where it says 'merge or delete' somewhere under the network and sharing centre- it automatically found everything and worked fine after that but that doesn't seem to be working now...

Any ideas?

I had the same problems, I reinstal once more, then I had the bright idea to reset, switch on and off the router to which vista xp required the intranet , the network ie lan and synology box via lan , and other PC's lan had no problems, only the intranet.

Same problem here, can't access the gateway off my Vista box, or any of them for that matter. It's a Netopia 3347NWG with latest firmware etc. Have to use an XP laptop but still things like filesharing and internet connection sharing don't work properly.

I managed to get it to identify and map the network though by checking the Link-Layer Topology Discovery boxes i the properties section of the ethernet connection and installing an LLTD update on the XP laptop so I can see everything is connected but no joy otherwise.

As I posted in another thread in this same sub-forum, make sure your network adapter is using either IPv4 or IPv6 instead of both. For some reason on both my computer and my Dad's laptop both were in use and since selecting only one, IPv4, a lot of my issues have been resolved.

Hope this helps you Arterion.

strange that I have;

Client for Microsoft networks
Qos Packet Schedular
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoff Networks
IPv6
IPv4
Link Layer Topology Discovery Mapper i/o Driver
Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder

I have all the latest updates to my vista 64 intalled.
and working 100%.
