I have recently added Vista onto my computer and was duel booting with them both.

I then wanted to clean out the XP and started a clean copy. This worked ok but now i am unable to access the Vista.

It does not give me the option of selecting which operating system as before.

Anyone suggest what I can try?

Thanks

install it on xp then it should find both windows or vista and it should be able to rebuild the boot files for vista

Arrggghhh... I am going insane. This states that I need to run as an administrator.

I enter my administrator password but it asks for it again.

Any suggestions?

you need to install the operating systems in order the OS were bought out i.e. xp before vista.

i did the same as u and had to install xp then go back and install vista again before i got the dual boot option, pain aye!

So a simple reinstall will work then for Vista? Not got anything on it at the moment other than office so I dont mind that.

Jimbo. I couldnt do your solution as when I try and run that problem it requires administrator access (Which my account has)

Tried running as administrator profile but that doesnt like my password.

Where can I change administrator password?

A reinstall sounds easier though

yup, format the partition with vista on so that leaves you with one blank partition and xp on the other partition... then install vista, it should work okay...

NOTE: make sure your xp is on the primary partition before otherwise it probs wont work...

I'm still not quite sure whether you're doing the right thing here.

Right click the shortcut to VistaBootPRO and choose 'Run As Administrator' from the menu. This is what it means by Run as Administrator. With UAC enabled in Vista, you won't be running as administrator unless you do this.

The alternative is not to reinstall Vista, but boot off the DVD and choose 'repair installation'. Choose Startup, reboot. Repeat until it says no problems were found.

I had this happen, all I did was boot with my Vista disk in and run it's repair tool, worked fine for me
And that didnt mess up the XP side of it? [QUOTE=csmager said:

I work in IT so I understand how to use the Run as function because I use it all day but for some reason it isnt recognising the password. I cant remember where you go to change this password. Is it in bios? The only thing I have in there is a supervisor password but I am not sure that is it.
If your user account is in the administrators group, it shouldn't ask for a password - it should just ask to continue.

The default 'Administrator' account is disabled, and the first account you create is an admin account.

Yeah thats why I was surprised that it asked for it. Ive not had any other problems with installing applications.

Anyone know how I can confirm the administrator password or disable it?
