Hey All,

Ok well I bought Vista Retail about a month ago and now I'm wondering if I should use it or not on my main rig... I currently have Windows Xp SP2 installed but I'm overdue a reinstall of the OS and I'm wondering which OS I should now use...

I use my computer for gaming, coding, surfing, encoding, and other things too.

Is Vista 64 going to run such things as DVD shrink, Civ4, Adobe CS2 without any problems with performance in games or anything else?

How are the creative sounds drivers these days? I know that they were really bad....

I'm also going to be installing a new CPU soon as well...

Let me know what you think

Personally, I would say go with Vista as I run it fine and find it better and more stable than XP. However, I don't run exactly the same combination of hardware, games and apps as you so you may have a different experience. Since it is unlikely that you will find someone with the same kit/apps, I would recommend giving it a go in a dual-boot setup if possible. If not, just give it a go and if you have trouble just go back to XP. You don't have to activate the Vista OS for 30 days if you are worried about that.

I dual boot XP & Vista 64 and have Adobe CS2, Fireworks CS2 & DVD Shrink and they work flawelessly <---- if thats how you spell it!

Edit: I also have a 5yr old Soundblaster Live 5.1 Soundcard and the XP Drivers work ok. Dont know about the rest though.

Does the 64bit 1 work pretty much the same as the 32bit version?

I am running a C2D setup and pretty much do the same as the original poster on my PC, but not sure whether to buy 64bit or 32bit!

'Great' is a bit much, imo.

It's a decent OS and hopefully you won't have too much bother with it if/when you make the switch.

I recently took the plunge too.

Just got the latest drivers and just installed it, and it was fine,

Just make sure you get all the latest patchs and your laufing.

I'm not looking back :)

I think that I will give it a go then, I did install it on my laptop to have a mess around but I think that I will use XP on the lappy and Vista on my Rig now... 64bit... do you all use NOD32 on it?
