Vista on this spec?

The following is my computer specification:

Processor: AMD AthlonXP 1800+ (1.53ghz)
Memory: 768mb DDR
Display: ATi Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb
Resolution: 1280x1024

How would it handle Windows Vista (with Aero enabled) compared to my current install of Windows XP? I'm hoping it would be the same (at a long shot, maybe faster!?)

I'm not sure if it'd actually let you have Aero effects on, my 9800 didn't allow it.

Also, I think it might be quite slow, probably be best to stick with XP until you get a new PC

You're kidding! They're both DirectX 9 cards with 128mb memory :eek:

Nope, my 128MB ATI Prophet 9800 Pro refused to do the effects, although the support might have been updated since I tested. It even refused to let me install the ATI drivers, so maybe that particular card was just plain incompatable with Vista.

Shoud do it no probs as said above, Vista only needs a Dx9 card, and those are both Dx9 cards.

should do it ok but i'd recommend 1gb ram or more.

Yeah, I got the famous code 10 on my 9800. It'd probably work in Vista Final though.

I was thinking the fact that Vista does drawing of the desktop on the graphics card would maybe make it smoother compared to XP.

RC2 needed a registry change to enable Aero for me on my 9700PRO.
