I built my PC a year ago, however for the last few months it has been freezing up every now an then. This got gradually worse until now it freezes almost every time I use it.

A lot of the time it will freeze just after windows has started. Then when I restart my pc the clock will say Jan 01 2003, or the actual date but year 2069. It also freezes a lot on youtube. It has not frozen once while playing fallout 3 on highest settings but has frozen playing COD4 on highest settings.

When I say freeze, I do not mean crash. I get no blue screen. It will not restart itself no matter how long I wait. The screen just freezes the sound stops but it does not go silent, just hangs on the same note and the keyboard and mouse stop working. (Light doesnt come one when I press Caps lock)

I have opened it up, cleaned out all dust, unplugged everything and put it back and have re-installed windows. None of this helped.

I have ran the windows memory diagnostics tool which says there is nothing wrong with the ram.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be causing it?
Can anybody recommend any reliable diagnostics software?

Please help me! The specs of my pc are in my sig. Thanks

Download Memtest and burn the iso to a disk and boot from that. That will take about 30 mins to check if your memory is working.

See if you have any system monitor tools to see if anything's happening to the motherboard or processor when it freezes.

Processor might be overheating, so monitor tools might show that. You could try removing it though and then reseating it.

Also, try changing the battery in the motherboard. The motherboard may be responsible for the freezing issue too (worst case scenario) but it's good to rule out other things too though.
