Since upgrading to Vista my games have been seriously under performing - not just new games or particularly demanding games either, but just in general. So far i've been playing a few test games such as Counter Strike Source, CnC3 - and older games like Unreal 2.
Im running this all on my trusty X1800xt, amd 3800X2, 1gb Ram.
It appears to me as if something is bottlenecking the performance in a pretty serious way. In CSS for example, in one area when standing still the frame rate remains a constant 30 (give or take). Lowering/increasing resolution and general details makes no difference to the frame rate, it remains at 30. In fact i've even tried running with a geforce 8800 (borrowed) - again the framerate in that bit of the map remains at 30. I tested on both cards with the latest drivers.
So, the 3d performance seems to be bottlenecked. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what may be causing this. So far i've had a few thoughts:
Anyway, any help is appreciated.

- Something wrong with the PSU - not providing enough power to the graphics card(s). It should be enough at 550 though, and i dont have much else attached (cd drive, hard-drive, soundcard)
- Not enough Ram for Vista to run properly - i would be running 2gb but the motherboard slot is apparently damaged (see below..)
- Some fault on the motherboard - i already know one of the RAM slots on the motherboard does not work (in the process of replacing the motherboard already) - so its possible something else isnt working as it should i suppose
Anyway, any help is appreciated.
