Vista performance scoring

Why is it pants exactly? Its obvious why they have implemented it. If you look on the back of any software it tells you the system requirements. If you are not very experienced in PC's then how do you know if yours will support it? Its much easier for people to go into the shop and look for the sticker which tells you that your pc needs to be a 4.0 than to know what graphics card it has, how much ram etc. (Bear in mind, most people do not know what their pc innards even look like).

Its a good idea . . but does it actually work?

Becuase a couple of friends of mine have the exact same system as mine and we all get different scores and plus their have also been quite a few people on here reporting tottaly different scores with having similar systems.

I think the way it scores your machine and scores the game is good, as long as it works correctly. Ive managed to get 5.9 on everything bar my HDD resulting in a score of 5.5. I think thats respectable considering, as long as its accurate.

My computer gets 4.0 o_O.

Nearly two years old now as well, thought that was a low score, but 5.9 being the highest doesn't make it sound too bad!

all its good for is so people who dont know much about pc's can "know what will run", and so places like the "purple shirt store" can say things like "buy this top of the range pc, it has 5.0/5.9 experience rating, only £2000!", the score means nothing.

WIE is wee, you may have a monster processor, ram and GPU but only get a score of 2 for your hard drive. For e-falus, 3d mark06 is the geeks choice as this does actually give you a score for how the PC performs for games. Well sort of. The best way is to actually know what you are buying and have spec wise. Look at games with minimum spec well below yours.
