vista prices confirmed :(

I would imagine the vast majority of people would go for the Home Premium version which is $159 for an upgrade...

Hardly outrageous for an OS that will be a key part of your PC for the next 5+ years is it. I'm sure there will be an OEM version even cheaper...

How many other key componants of you PC do you use for 5 years + for £120?

Hasn't it already been confirmed that non 64-bit vista wont play HD-DVD? I assume that includes XP too.
HDCP protected HD-DVD's, yes. But no studio is using that kind of copy protection, and probably won't for a few years.

Not really - no-one is forcing you to buy the product !

Ack I hate it when people post that phrase. MS is effectively forcing us to buy it because it will be the new standard, and what techie is going to be left behind in gaming etc?

It's still forcing people, just in a different and far more subtle way.

MS should drop the prices not rise them they just making people move to other systems or pirate them. I would pay 250 but many others wouldn't.

That was renounced.

Even if the movies use hdcp non hdcp devices can still play them, though they will be at a lower resolution if the publisher decides to use ict. Only one movie publisher will be using ict before 2010.
