Hi guys,

Got a small problem. Had Vista HP working fine with my Hp 6800 printer when it was USBd. This printer also supports Wi Fi and LAN printing so when I got my new router I plugged it in, went to control panel in vista, removed the printer then re-added it as a network printer. It found it no problem and printed a test page fine.

But, whenever I turn the laptop on now I try to print and it fails, no error message or anything. Checking the printer properties shows the printer as 'offline'.

I googled some stuff and found out about the SNMP port setting which I disabled but this had made no difference. Can anyone help?

I'm assume you're looking to do LPR printing?
I had similar issues with Vista Business printing to a HP F2280 through a wireless print server, turns out simply setting up a TCP/IP port with the correct print queue name doesnt quite work in Vista.

Instead I had to install the LPR Print Monitor feature through Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows features on or off > Print Services.

You'll then get the option to use LPR when adding a new printer.

Cheers mate, not quite sure I understand though. Whats LPR and why do I have to enable a feature of what should really be something quite straight forward?

If I add the printer, print the test page (which works) I can print all day long as long as don't turn off the laptop or let it sleep.

Does this still fit in with your fix?
