For some reason since a reinstall of Vista 64bit I no longer have the ability to change a program to "run as administrator" in the compatibility tab. The option is just greyed out. I am an administrator on the PC and googling it hasn't seemed to bring up any answers, any ideas

This happens if you disable UAC, it also happens with UAC enabled if the program does'nt require admin rights to run.

the first thing i did after installing vista (only 32bit mind), was to enable the main admin account and use that instead. sure i'm going to get flamed for bypassing all of vista's great security features.... ( ). i'm a responsible person. i don't download crap or visit dodgy sites, so i'm sure i'll be ok. :)

since doing that, using vista is a lot more enjoyable. infact it's just like xp. no more prompts when doing anything. it's great. :D

ah, that could be it, thanks :D

will turn it back on to test. BF2142 seems to need to run in Admin mode as Punkbuster complains if it isn't :(

Does the option appear in the right click context menu on the programs shortcut or is that greyed out too?

it does appear there, but doesn't seem to actually run it in admin mode, although I don't know how to check it either way...

I've disabled UAC and it still shows for me.

definitely didn't for me, but everything seems to be working now I have turned it back on, apart from all the annoying pop-up "are you sure you want to run that..." messages
