Hi there,

I am using vista and i have a problem with standby.

Whenever i put my computer into standby it comes straight back out again.

I have checked and there shouldn't be any device waking it, I have checked keyboard, mouse and network.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

unlpug all usb devices and network

keep using sleep mode, test it with barely anything connected

add one thing at a time to test it

Enter device manager and expand the "Keyboard Device". Right click on HID Keyboard and select "Properties". Click power management and untick "Allow this device to wake". Do the same for your mouse. This may work, did for me. Also ensure that BIOS is not set to wake on USB or similar.

And if there is no power management in Properties of Keyboard or mouse devices in Vista...

If you have more than one instance of this within the tree, try the other. Should such a thing not be present, perhaps you are running a limited account? Logon as admin and try again. I have two quite different installs of Vista on two very differnt PCs, one USB keyboard, the other PS2, both installs have this option. If you dont, then the solution will lie elsewhere.

I have already done this. The problem is i want to be able to come out of standby via the keyboard (when a button is pressed)

It is the keyboard that is at fault. When it is plugged into the USB Port it has the problem, but when it is plugged into the PS2 port via a converter it doesn't.

I couldn't find anything relavent in the bios to suggest that it is "waking on usb or similar". I have the DFI Ultra-D motherboard.

My Mouse & Keyboard set is the Logitech MX3100. (MX1000 mouse, LX700 Keyboard)

Yeah same here. My usb keyboard needs to be disabled in power management but the PS2 (with sleep button) doesn't. If your USB keyboard works with a PS2 converter, leave it like that, it frees up a usb port for you. It seems this issue is relates to usb only.

Can you bring your computer out of standby via keyboard when its in the PS2 port? - because i can't, and would like to be able to.

Yeah, but the keyboard in PS2 native( MS internet keyboard), no adapter used. The other USB keyboard does not have this feature (Saitek Eclips). Does your USB, PS2'd keyboard allow it to enter sleep by pressing the button?

TBH, I don't use the sleep functionality because my pc is either on all the time or completely powered down when at rest. I find this the best way as a fresh boot can clear away clutter.

Hmm, so maybe its driver related. You may need a driver for the sleep button to work in PS2 mode? If so, it wouldn't work in sleep mode, as it takes its cue from BIOS. This is a guess and I dont know for sure. I had a look on Logitechs support site which does not offer any help.

It doesn't have to be the sleep button to wake the computer, i don't mind just any button, as long as it wakes it.
