Vista question - xp style start menu?

is there a way of getting the start menu to behave like it does in xp, i don't want to to 'classic start menu', just want a nicer navigation of "all programs", i want it to display across the screen, rather than replace itself as it does by default in vista..

5600 is WAY better than the other builds i've used in the past, faster at installing, loading, and feels a lot more usable now

edit, windowskey + tab = nice new macos type switcher, lush!

that's my big gripe with vista so far and that is a lack of customisation options. sure, lets have a new start menu, but why not have an option to have it anyway you want. and another thing - everything turning black when you maximise a window even the sidebar - looks fugly to me. i can't wait until some 3rd party skins come out. i like aero glass but it needs a lot more work....

i'm not overly keen with the new system properties dialog the old one was snappier, i'm sure i'll get used to it though

and Control Panel -> Folder Options?, come on thats just backwards!

edit, ah in there you can tick "always show menus"

Its not being doing that for the last few builds for me. I personally quite like the aero theme.

i've been running since beta2(5384), the pre-rc1 (5536) and rc1 (5600) and it's always done it. are you sure you're running the full aero glass with transparent windows and not just basic aero? :confused:

it maximises to black for everyone, like this....

normal - notice the see thru title bar and sidebar

maximised window - it's all gone dark

Ok maybe I'm lying and it is, was sure it had stopped doing that :confused:

Don't think it's possible. But hitting start and just typing part of the name of the program you're looking for is far quicker than using All Programs. I think the reason for the change is exactly that - MS aren't expecting it to be used anymore.
