I have a Dell re-installation DVD for a Vista Home Premium 32-bit, and I was wondering, if I was to build myself a new PC, would the disc give me a new copy of Vista? After all, I paid for it so why can't I use it again?

Thanks

It might work but bear in mind that that copy of Vista is OEM and intended for use on the computer it came with.

No. You could install it, and to be honest you could probably activate it, but you would be breaking the terms of the license. If you want a copy of vista that can be transferred around, buy a retail copy.

Dell OS Disks are OEM which means the licence is tied to the motherboard it was originally installed on. Even though the key that's installed on the machine when you get it is a generic key.

Also, Dell OS Disks also require a Dell BIOS to install on.

I've used a Dell XP Pro disk to install on another PC with a OEM XP Pro serial key and it installed fine. I just had to change the product key before activation
To the OP no you can't, its against the license conditions. Either buy a retail copy or if you do not intend to change the mobo on the new PC, OEM.
