funny enough, I did read that, and i downloaded Beta 2 through Connect a couple of months back

Upgrade is possible, but I'd go with a clean install. You can't've installed that much since pre-RC1 - it hasn't been out that long!

got a few games and office 2003 installed so sod it will format/reinstall
 
have just installed it and it does not look any different to pre rc1 so far, will try some av software and virtual drive programs out now
 
Can i install the pre-rc1 on multiple computers with the same key? I ahve downloaded it but do not have a beta 2 key, where do you get one from?

You can, although you might be better off with RC1. You won't be able to get a new key until RC1 is publically released next week anyway. For what it's worth, apparently you can install without a key and it will work for 2 weeks without activation/needing to type in a key. Not tried it myself, but if it works you'd be able to get a key before it expired.

I've heard:
One of the free AV's work (either AVG or Avast, can't remember which)
Nero 6 might work. I've heard of people getting Nero 7 to work if they run the installation in XP SP2 Compatiblity mode and only choose Nero Burning ROM to install (and not the other Nero junk). There's a new Nero 7 out (7.2.7.0, i think). Only released a few days ago. I've got that downloaded, and I'll give it a go on Vista when I get it installed.
