Vista RC2 This Friday !

In related news, Microsoft will be changing the Product Keys it uses for Vista once the product hits the RTM escrow phase. Because of this change, users will not be able to use prerelease Vista Product Keys to install the RTM version. My understanding is that this change won't affect the RC2 release.

So one way or another i guess everyone will get RC2 eventually, Then they will do away with the CPP keys and start agin, looks like this release is the one many of us will be using until you have the install dvd in your hand

You can delete RC1 from XP and restore the mbr though can't you? Then you can install RC2 from within XP?

Excellent. I shall stick this on the new Core 2 Duo build I've just done. Do we have any working antivirus and DVD burning software yet?

AVG on RC1 here, can't seem to find a good working CD/DVD burning program to work alongside though

hi guys
u using x86 and looking for dvd burning software?

I have nero working, the install bombed out before the end but it still worked, It just doesnt create a program files folder so you have to create the shortcuts from C:\program files yourself.

Roxio 8 and 9 work, as do CloneDVD 2, and Slysoft AnyDVD which now has a built in ripper. I have tested these on builds RC1 and 5728 with no problems at all. I have also used VSO ConvertXtoDVD with no problems either :)

I use ImgBurn which does Iso's and such like, alongside the built in one its all I really need. Its also a tiny install (a couple of MB's) :)

I just managed to get RC1 back to the way I like it after trying the 57xx version which had so many issues. I really hope RC2 is better than that one. :(

Can't get 8 or 9 to work on mine both install then bomb out first time I try and start them up?

Anyone tested gaming themselves yet?

Going by anandtech's recent report it's not looking good, with upto 40% drop in fps in some games :(

I wanted to try and install to a spare HDD but have no key :(

Strange, mine installed and ran first time. Have you tried right clicking, and running as administrator when you install?

I just quick format the Vista partition and then install to it, doing a full install. Thats what I had to do for build 57xx.

The pain is you obviously lose all the settings.

When Nvidia and ATI get themselves into gear and release "proper" drivers hopefully the fps levels should be able to atleast match what they are in XP currently for all games. Doubfull they'll release any updated ones now though before RTM :(
