Just sorting out my .mp3's and I want all off mine arranged like this, other than doing it manually is there an app that will re-name each tune as below

etc. 01. name

Windows Media Player can read the info from the MP3 tags and re-arrange the music accordingly. You can customise how it names/arranges files (i.e. track no - title etc)

Yeah WMP will do that. Just change your rip settings, so it uses a dot. And then in the library change it to "Rename music files using rip settings"

I only use WMP11 to play my music, will I have to therefore import all off my tunes into WMP11 to the library just to change the titles?

yeah but its only a case of Press F3 from memory to do it. It will rename and re-organise if you do as above, tools - library options

JJ MP3 Tagger is what I've used in the past. Great little program; will read tags into file name and also file name into tags, depending on what you tell it to do.

it's not a player, it's just for renaming & tagging music

tag's are the data held in the file, such as Artist, Track Name, Album name, etc etc..

if you use winamp, hold ALT and tap 3 when selecting a song, it'll show you the tag..

never used wmp11, looked to bloaty, so can't comment

Yer, any idea if there is some freeware instead? Think ive heard off something called mp3tagger or something.

Iam only doing this because iam off traveling soon and just brought an archos and want to add all my music onto it and have it arranged well.

http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ Mp3Tag will do the checking of Tag info by searching Amazon etc for album info. Providing the Track names are not just Track 01 by Artists then use WMP to arrange it all, your archos software will then import a nice clean library. I have two folders of music at the mo sorted and unsorted, run MP3 on an album in unsorted, get the details, then paste it to where WMP accesses it and organises it all for me

If you have missing or incomplete tags. MusicBrainz picard is your saviour. if all the info is there but just needs renaming. There's far easier programs.

Hhhmmmm, not sure if I need/want to mess about with tags now. only really wanted to have everything arranged like in the screeny. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Updating the Tags will allow things like WinAmp, Archos, WMP and other MP3 devices/apps to display the correct information of what is playing etc rather than just Track 1
