I had been pushing my system to the limit this past months, with a great many BSODs. This morning however, my Vista installation decided it would have no more, and decided to freeze at bootup. It didn't even want to go into safe mode. I inserted vista disc, tried startup repair, that couldn't fix the problem automatically, tried chkdsk, that found some stuff, but didn't fix it.

So I did a complete new install, and all is well.

Is it possible in Vista to make a kind of recovery disk like you get with a branded pc? I don't want to reinstall my Anti Virus, nvidia drivers, MS office etc etc If this should happen again. Any ideas?

Or, if it isn't possible, is it possible to create a backup onto an external HD or something?

Cheers in advance.

Grab a copy of Acronis True image. Amazing bit of software and is basically what you are after. I think there is a free copy on the Acronis site lurking around

I think I've got Nero Backup or powerbackup with the motherboard. Would that do the job?

EDIT - Just found that it's Cyberlink PowerBackUp. I think I'll get a copy of Norton Ghost or the Acronis on my way home from work this afternoon. Cheers Pea0n.
