Replacing my Inspiron 6000 with a Vostro 1500, so transitioning from XP to Vista (Ultimate). Just wondering, with Vista do I still need to bother with:
Antivirus (using AVG atm)
Third Party Defragmentation (using PerfectDisk atm)
Registry & General Cleanup (using CCleaner atm)

While we're at it are there any other maintainence type things that I might be doing on XP that are redundant with Vista? I don't particularly wan't to be slowing it down with unneccesary programs.

Thanks,
Mr. Brightside :)

I've found Vista is pretty hot on its heels anyway. My laptop with Vista (Sempron 2800, 512mb RAM and 40gb HDD) is much quicker than my desktop (XP1600, 1gb RAM and 160gb HDD) with Windows XP, so you certainly won't slow it down by installing a few small applications.

Further to that, I wouldn't trust the built-in Microsft applications anyway. The firewall seems to be pretty good so don't bother with that, but I'd install anti-virus, anti-spyware (I use Spybot S&D), defrag program and a registry cleaner.

That's pretty much all I use as far as I can remember.
