Any news when this is coming out as i keep reading it should be out in a week then a month then mid next year, its just a bit confusing why cant microsft just announce a date

Yep 1st quarter as of now, will probably change I'm sure near the time.

Microsoft have NEVER released an official release date on SP1 for Vista.
All of the dates you see are just various sites making estimates or guessing.

From what we are seeing in the beta builds and the feedback on the MS forums I would say December would be a possibility but it will probably wait until January.
Remember that is just the opinion of a beta tester - I don't work for Microsoft.

SP1 is not going to be anything special by the way - if you have a fully patched Vista machine the day before the SP1 release you aren't going to get much else from actually installing SP1.
SP1 is fixes, no real new content.

Wow, will be pretty small for a service pack then, dont think Ive installed that many updates for it. Most of the updates I get these days are for Microsoft Defender.

SP1 is not just fixes, MS release patch after patch, a SP will clear up clutter from so many patches we have downloaded. we could download 15patches for certain parts of the OS and the SP could address all of these issues with a much smaller and simpler setup.

I’ve managed to get hold of an SP1 Beta build 6001.16659 which comes in at 703Mb uncompressed .exe

It’s got some nice improvements like the defragment programme provides much more information & allows you to select different drives etc, can honestly say it’s not speeded the OS up IMO people who are waiting for SP1 to move to vista are going to be dissapointed.

As its a beta build I have an annoying water mark going to reinstall and go for the 64Bit version soon as my Raptor arrives.
