I'm installing vista on a new build pc and I get to the 'Installing Features' stage and it doesnt seem to be doing anything, been like this for over an hour now, any suggestions?
I've tried restarting, now it doesnt even give me a vista install screen, just loads with the green vista bar, the screen changes to the install colour and nothing more.
Ok, I'll try that, currently I'm on the 'installing features' section, I can move the cursor and the X button is highlightable, so no screen freeze, and the hdd indicator is flashing, showing activity. Think I'll leave it running overnight, see if anything happens by the morning. If not I'll try the timings.
Just another note, after failing the Vista install the 2nd time, I tried to boot from XP and it said no harddrive found :S Altho the hdd is available in the bios, boot menu and from the Vista installation option.
I have a SATA dvd drive, I was unaware of loading any drivers during the installation. I bought an OEM samsung drive so I didnt get any sort or driver disc, just the dvd writing software. Any idea where I can get hold of the driver?

iv got a spare IDE dvd drive. I've not tried memtest as I have 2 sticks of 2gb and tried an install one each of them. My harddrive is IDE so do I still need to get some SATA drivers for it? If so where can I get them.
I dont have any spare IDE leads to try. I'm trying an install with an IDE DVD drive now, but its painfully slow, no different than with SATA. I'll try the memtest next, but in failing that there isn't anything else that I can really do.
Just got off the phone to a guy who says to try a low level format or a Zero Fill. The only problem being these are executables inside the windows environment. Anyone know of a way to execute these from a pendrive on start up? I don't have a floppy drive.
Been onto overclockers and they said to run a diagnostics on my harddrive but I have no idea how to do it. I have the diagnostics tool on my pen drive, but no idea how to get it to run
thanks for the help, but my brain is fried right now, I admitted defeat and sent the mobo, cpu and hdd into OC for testing. Here's hoping something comes back faulty.
